Mutual icecast streaming among two EeePCs using ad-hoc networking

Robert Damphousse and I did a little experiment together today and yesterday: We set up an Icecast2 streaming server and Ices2 streaming source on both of our Asus EeePCs 701, connected them through an ad-hoc wireless network, and then streamed audio to each other.

An almost laptop-free development setup for an EeePC streaming experiment with Robert Damphousse

What is nice about this setup is that it requires zero network infrastructure, since in an ad-hoc network, devices send data peer-to-peer, without the involvement of any router. We tested the setup in the Banff New Media Institute (JPL building), and partly it even works between different floors and through walls. Our first setup 'featured' around 30 seconds latency, but today, we got it down to around 5 seconds with 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, stereo, ogg-encoded audio.
